Last weekend Hack Manchester Junior saw a selected cohort of young people descend on the Bright Building in Manchester Science Park, taking party in a 48 hour hackathon.
Hackathon challenges were set by the likes of Co-op, AJ Bell and Pexip, and included finding ways to help people with their personal finances, reduce shoplifting, and improve the video experience online.
Tom got to work with some amazing 11-18s, supporting them to code their ideas from scratch within the time limit, in a supportive and exciting group environment. It was brilliant to see a diverse mix of young people not only developing their skills but also sharing knowledge, teaching their peers and asking insightful questions of us, the volunteer mentors.
Hats off to Claire McDonald and other organisers for pulling it all together from the ground up with limited time and resources!
