Working with us

The importance of connecting

We recently held our second Town Hall meeting: an all-company meeting designed to give each employee insight into how the company is performing, our main challenges and our goals and objectives for the coming months. It was also an opportunity to bring the team together to connect, who all work remotely for the majority of the week.

Since the last town hall in January, there have been some significant changes in the business. We’ve expanded the team, hiring another full-time developer and I became a permanent member of the team too.

The biggest change though is a new way of managing our workload that we’ve introduced in order to streamline our processes and provide clients with more visibility of their work roadmap and progress. We’ll be sharing more about this soon!

The Town Hall meeting provided a great opportunity to discuss this change: how it impacts the team, the benefits of working this way and the challenges we may face in undertaking such a monumental shift. Being able to have discussions like this face-to-face is really important for everyone involved. It allows us to better gauge different reactions and it’s far easier to have open, honest discussions without the barrier of a screen.

After the formal business was out of the way, we all took the time to do two exercises in order to get to know ourselves, and each other a little better: the first was writing a brief ‘user manual’ which included details about how and where we like to work, what motivates us, what we find difficult and how we learn best.

The second exercise was a test called 16 personalities. This provided fascinating insight into not only our own personalities and traits but also those of the team around us. We each presented the ‘results’ of the two exercises back to the wider team, which was a great way to learn about each other and form a deeper understanding of the people we spend the most time with.

I’m already looking forward to the next Town Hall in December and I’m especially excited to see if the changes we’ve implemented have had a positive impact, not only for our clients but also for the team.

I’m mostly looking forward to seeing the team all together again though. There was such a positive energy when we were all in a room together and it was great to be a part of that!
